After many, many months of planning, the Newark blogger meet finally arrived! This is where I grew up so it was brilliant to walk around the shops and reminisce (even though it has been ages since I last went so couldn't remember where some things were!). Once I had met up with everyone and we'd spent some time in town, we headed to Pizza Express for half 2. Warning: this is a longer post than usual, and I wouldn't advise reading it if you're hungry - just writing it alone made my tummy rumble!
On arrival I handed out the goodie bags and I was so chuffed that they were really well received! The generous brands that got involved were; Cocoa Brown, Jacy & Jools, Superdrug, Batiste, Kiss-air candles, Lylia Rose, W7, Jelly Belly, Nanshy, Metcalfe's Skinny and Essence. I had kept quiet about the goodie bags up until a week beforehand, as although they are not a requirement for blogger meets, I think they're a lovely surprise when you are presented with one! If you're wondering where I got the bags from, I bought them from Primark as they were really cute and hold a lot. I'll do another post focusing on the goodie bag so don't worry!
While the girls had a good rummage through their bags, I tucked into the delicious dough ball starter with garlic butter. I actually didn't expect us to get a full plate each, so I was beyond happy as you could imagine!
I did have a few bloggers back out at short notice, but in the end it didn't really matter because having a smaller than average group meant that everyone got a chance to speak to each other, and there was a great atmosphere! Admittedly I've been to Pizza Express before for a kid's pizza party when I was younger, so I roughly knew what to expect as we all gathered around the table.
After squishing the dough into what was hopefully a circle, then adding tomato sauce, it was time to throw on some toppings!
Being a vegetarian and pretty picky, I opted for the pizza I always go for - plain cheese and tomato, yumyum!
Our pizzas were whisked away, and then the calzone challenge commenced! We were split in half to decide on team names, then to nominate someone from the team to do the challenge. Jemma and I went head to head to make a calzone in 4 minutes, and it was hilarious!
It was really close, but I won by a fraction (although Jemma managed to catch a flying dough base so kudos to her! ... Don't ask). Once cooked, ours looked like it had been stabbed along the edge, but I was really impressed with our masterpiece so we tucked in!

I was really impressed with my handy work when my pizza was placed in front of me - look how good that crust looks! It tasted divine and it's really encouraged me to try and make homemade pizzas more when I go back to University.
In fact I think everyone did a fab job with their pizzas - take a look for yourself! Yumyum.
I had such a blast during the Newark meet and it seemed like everyone else did too! If you're thinking of organising your own blogger meet, I completely urge you too as it's really rewarding and you get to meet lots of local bloggers. I found that organising and attending my own meet was so much less stressful than attending others - I guess I just had everything planned out and lots of backup plans!
