Life | What Have I Been Up To?

university moving boxes messy room bedroom

I know, I know, I haven't posted in over two weeks. But I can honestly say that I've just been so busy with personal things, that my blog unfortunately got pushed to the side while I've been sorting my life out. Instead of trying to think of a way of explaining what's happened, I'm just going to post below what I put on twitter - it's simple and straight to the point! I'm also really appreciative of anyway who messaged me to support me, thank-you.

Let's ignore the fact that I haven't posted in a while - I've been so busy with University! However last weekend I visited home, and I also decided I would try to do vlogmas. Feel free to check out the video of week 1 of vlogmas here.

Lush | Brand New Shampoo Bars

Lush New Shampoo Bars 2014

Known for their unique creations, Lush have now produced six brand new shampoo bars to add to the already successful collection. These new additions remind me of macarons, and although you cannot eat them, they smell divine. When I attended the Lincoln blogger meet on Sunday, we were allowed a quick sneak peek!

Lush New Massage Bars November 2014 Percup Pearl Dirty Shades Of Earl Grey Yes Yes Yes

I didn't have time to write this post yesterday when I got my hands on them, but I couldn't wait to share with you Lush's latest products! Released yesterday, we are graced with five new massage bars to add to our collection. If you haven't heard of these before, massage bars are solid bars of moisturising butters and essential oils that melt directly onto warm skin instead of messing around with bottles.

First up is Percup which is a caffeine fuelled massage bar, and even has whole coffee beans in the bar itself to help boost circulation. Percup will leave you bright and alert, while the coconut and jojoba oils hydrate leaving your skin feel nourished. This massage bar will leave you full of beans!

Pearl is a sweet and floral bar, made with argan oil, rose oil and absolute, with sago bubbles to massage the skin and help boost circulation. It feels (and smells) so good!

Dirty has the popular spearmint and herbal gorilla perfume and is filled with cocoa powder and vegan dark chocolate in the middle - a delicious mint-chocolate massage (just don't be tempted to eat it!).

Shades Of Earl Grey is a sweet, sophisticated earl grey and citrus scent that will relieve tension in your mind and body. Lose your inhibitions.

Yes Yes Yes hits the spot leaving its floral perfume to linger on your skin. All the butters and oils in this bar means it will glide easily onto the body, and will have you turning heads all day long!

Mermaid Halloween Makeup Look

Mermaid Halloween Green Makeup Look Idea Tutorial 2014

Today I bring you a Mermaid makeup look, in all its magical wonder! I used Dainty Doll eyeshadow in Copacabana (bright blue) and The One foundation in shade 1 (white), mixed together to create a base. To contour, I used Dainty Doll in Jungle (emerald green). All the eye and face makeup was created by using the Makeup Revolution Colour Chaos palette and Snazaroo face paint for the white dots (and a little bit on my eyebrows).

I'm not going to lie, I'm a sucker for Halloween and have a fancy dress box the size of what a child would own. As it's my favourite time of the year, I wanted to show you part of my collection, starting with Nurse Joy that I hope you'll recognise is from Pokemon!

This dress is the Fever Nurse Costume from Smiffy's, and although it is not on their website anymore, you can easily find it on eBay and other fancy dress sites. The dress features a cute bow on the back and includes a headpiece. I bought stockings and white patent heels separately, along with a little Pokeball pin to complete the look. I did have a Pikachu necklace to pair with this look, but sadly it's nowhere to be found!

Obviously this outfit is opting more for the less scary side of Halloween, I adore it nonetheless. This dress is a bit on the short side so I wouldn't go out wearing it unless I had shorts or something on underneath - else what would my mother think! Makeup wise, I've kept it looking natural with a nude lip and an attempted anime eye look. Dressing as Nurse Joy always gives me the temptation to go back to having bright pink hair, but since I last dyed it pink in January and my hair is still stained now, I don't think that'll happen again anytime soon!

Let me know in the comments if you'd like to see more Halloween outfits, or would prefer more makeup looks!

Black Swan Halloween Makeup Look

Black Swan Halloween Makeup Look Tutorial 2014

Black Swan Halloween Makeup Look Tutorial 2014

Black Swan Halloween Makeup Look Tutorial 2014

After seeing a Black Swan makeup look on the Fragrance Direct website, I couldn't help but give it a go myself! I had purposely bought white foundation to create this look, however I wasn't the least surprised when I found out that it suited my skin colour perfectly - just call me a ghost! Since the foundation made no change to my skin colour, instead I opted to use Snazaroo white face paint. Although similar to my Avatar look, it did turn out a little patchy but it definitely did turn my face white!

I used a simple black eyeshadow from the Naked Basics palette to fill in my eyelids and to create the shape I wanted. Using a white eyeshadow, I drew a thin line on my eyelid and proceeded to fill in my waterline. I tried to use the same eyeshadow to give more depth to the black eyeshadow, to give it a feather-like effect but this failed sadly, so instead I opted for black gems. On my lips I used Makeup Revolution Rebel with Cause lipstick. It did bleed out into the white face paint a little, but I adore this shade! You could easily finish off this look by adding white to create a feather effect on the eyes (or perhaps stick on real feathers), and adding a tiara or hairpiece.

I'm having so much fun creating Halloween looks, and I've got a few more coming your way this week so keep an eye out for those! Let me know in comments what you think of this Black Swan makeup look!

Avatar Halloween Makeup Look

Avatar Halloween Makeup Look Tutorial 2014 Blue Face

Avatar Halloween Makeup Look Tutorial 2014 Blue Face

Avatar Halloween Makeup Look Tutorial 2014 Blue Face

Products Used:
Snazaroo Face Paints in Sky Blue and White
Makeup Revolution Colour Chaos Palette (Over-bored, Deliver Me, Needed To..., TipX and Wkd)
Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette (Crave)
Collection 24hr Extreme Liner
L'Oreal Miss Manga Mascara

Tools:
Face Paint Brush
Makeup Sponges
Eyelash Curlers
RT Essential Foundation Brush
RT Shading Brush
RT Brow Brush
RT Blush Brush
RT Contour Brush

To find out exactly how I created this look, click below!

  • Firstly I mixed Snazaroo Sky Blue and White together to make a paler blue that I wanted.
  • I then covered my entire face, ears and neck with blue face paint using the RT essential foundation brush, and used makeup sponges to disguise any brush strokes.
  • Under my eyes I drew a thick, white line using the white face paint.
  • I used Over-bored (dark blue eyeshadow) to contour using the RT contour brush. Using the same eyeshadow, I then contoured my nose using the RT shading brush.
  • Using the RT brow brush, I used Crave (black eyeshadow) to define my nose further.
  • To highlight, I patted TipX (white eyeshadow) over my nose and cheek bones.
  • Using Over-bored and Deliver Me (dark grey eyeshadow) with the RT brow brush, I brushed the colour into my eyebrows to make them bolder.
  • To define the crease on my eyes, I used Crave with the RT shading brush.
  • I patted Wkd (turquoise eyeshadow) into the centre of my eyelid.
  • Applying my eyeliner on with the Collection felt tip liner, I also added a flick for a feminine feel.
  • Using Crave, I softly drew a line underneath where I had put the white face paint below my eye. This will give the effect of my eye appearing bigger - just like they are on Avatar!
  • Curling my eyelashes, I applied lots of mascara.
  • Using Over-bored, I patted the colour a little under my lower lip to make them appear bigger.
  • Now for the lips! I concealed my actual lip colour with the same blue eyeshadow as before, then patted Needed To... (a pink/purple eyeshadow) over the top.
  • Using the same pinky, purple colour, I used the RT blush brush to apply it to my cheeks and to the end of my nose to add a little colour to the look.
  • I mixed Over-bored and Deliver Me together to create a blue/black colour so I could draw on the markings using the RT brow brush.
  • Using the white face paint again, I randomly dotted circles over my nose, cheeks and forehead.

I had so much fun creating this look after seeing a tutorial on it by Dinosaur Dances, and although the lips went a little funny by the end and I forgot to put white eyeliner on my waterline, I think it isn't a bad attempt. Although if I were to do this look again, I would try a different brand of face paint as sadly this one did leave areas patchy, but I'm still happy with how it turned out. Let me know in comments below what you think!

My Skydiving Experience

For about three years now I've had my heart set on skydiving, however money or the wrong time of year has always held me back. Now that I'm in my second year of University, I decided to join my very first society/sport and that happened to be, yup you guessed it, skydiving!

Nottingham Blogger Meet

A couple of weeks ago I was fortunate enough to grab myself a space to attend the Nottingham blogger meet, hosted by Leah and Gemma. It was held at a bar/restaurant called Sobar that sells delicious food and non-alcoholic drinks - clever name huh? Once we had all arrived, chatted and had full bellies, we made our way upstairs to the function room. There we received a great talk from Suzie from Xenca, and then we were let loose to try out all the products!

University | Stress Free Freshers

Stress Free Freshers Stress Free Print TIps Advice University

So you're starting University? Most likely you won't have any idea what to expect apart from knowing that freshers will be one on the most memorable moments of your University life. However it does come with its up's and down's. I've been there, I know it can be stressful moving to a new place, meeting new people and trying to fit in.

So I'm here to provide you with my top tips and essential items that you need to make freshers more stress free!

Moving In

- Arrive early (or within your allocated time slot) giving you enough time to settle in and have a look around campus.

- Prop your door open. It makes it so much easier to meet new people, and at this stage it's much more important to say hello than arrange your bedroom precisely.

- Sharing is caring, and this goes for everyone in your flat. No, you cannot bribe them to be your friends, but if they are in dire need of loo roll or a tea bag, you could make their day by lending out a helping hand. They might even return the favour if you ever need help too.

- Something you can actually do before the first week of freshers is find your course mates. Many Universities set up Facebook pages so students can speak to each other before the term even starts, so keep an eye out for those! Speaking to your course mates before you attend your first lecture can relieve a lot of stress!

Find Your Bearings

- Once you've scouted around your campus, take note of where your lectures will take place because you will not want to find this out at 9am of your first lecture with a hangover (so don't forget to keep painkillers handy and munch on something beforehand even if it's a breakfast bar).

- Explore the University so you know where the nearest shop, SU bar etc. including the nearest cash point!

Freshers Fayre

- Sign up to everything and anything, don't be afraid to try something new. You don't have to be an expert, so put your name down for anything that interests you.

- There is usually a small fee to join societies however during the first week or two, the events are mostly free to participate in! Membership can be bought at any time throughout the year, so don't feel as if you will be missing out if you don't sign up straight away.

- Some sports may expect you to have some knowledge of what is required, however newbies are more often than not welcome to join and take part in the teams.

- Freebies, freebies, freebies. Even as a second year I still took advantage of the many freebies given out at the sports and society fayre! Get it right and you won't have to purchase any pens throughout your time at University.

- You'll most likely bump into lots of promoters for clubs as you walk around, so look out for wrist bands being sold for the events you want to go to - but stay aware that these should be legit and official.

Going "Out Out"

- If you don't already know this term, you will do soon! (or just learn about it here)

- Make sure you have numbers of the people you're going out with, just in case you happen to separate at some point during the night.

- Make sure you know your way around the city - or at least remember where some landmarks are to help you out.

- Store a few local taxi numbers on your phone just in case you get lost, it doesn't hurt to have a back-up plan.

- Before you leave make sure your phone is charged up, you have your ID and also a bit of loose change.

- Put a kit together (of just a few plasters, vitamins, and ear plugs etc. similar to the stress free freshers kit shown above, courtesy of StressFreePrint) for the times when you will need them the most. I have already had to use pretty much all of these since moving to the centre of town, especially the ear plugs as it's quite loud at night living next to a club as you can imagine, so they are vital for a good night's sleep).

One Last Note...

Once you say goodbye to your parents, chances are you probably won't see them again until Christmas, so you're fending for yourself until then. And yes, this means cooking and cleaning for yourself! Purchase a student cook book from a bookstore such as WHSmith, as these recipes are designed for students on a budget. It also means you will save money by making cooked meals instead of ordering takeaways (although the odd takeaway here and there isn't always a bad thing!)

My last piece of advice here applies to your entire experience at University, and that is to purchase a reliable USB stick. You're responsible of your own work at University, and they won't accept corrupted files for an excuse. So remember, back-up your work and take advantage of online storage!

I hope my tips will help you get through the start of your University adventure, as they are what I have discovered helps as I went through freshers myself.

What's your top tip for a stress free freshers?

Lush | Fizzbanger Bath Bomb

Lush Fizzbanger Bath Bomb Review Yellow

For a while now I've got into a habit of grabbing a random bath bomb from Lush to try, so I have no idea what to expect, hoping for the best! I like having a surprise when dropped in the bath, and it's safe to say I wasn't expecting much from this, as it just looked like a big, plain, yellow bath bomb. But oh did it prove me wrong!

Lush Fizzbanger Bath Bomb Review Yellow

I love to write reviews on my blog and I was intrigued to know what this one would bring, so I grabbed my camera and dropped the bath bomb into the tub. As I was on my own I put on some background music to keep me entertained, however I began to hear some faint popping sounds. I switched off the music and to my amazement the popping sounds were actually coming from the bath bomb!

Lush Fizzbanger Bath Bomb Review Green Water

It changed colour as it fizzed, crackling with popping candy as it went and released first a citrussy apple and then a cinnamon, apple pie like scent with a hint of ylang ylang. I've never had one like this before, so I was beyond excited and amused at this big yellow bath bomb fizzing and popping away. I did have a video clip to show the bath bomb in action, but I think it's something you should find out and experience for yourself!

Lush Fizzbanger Bath Bomb Review Bang Note

What really topped it off for me was a quirky, comic-style note inside the bath bomb - I love it! Retailing at £3.25, I'm definitely repurchasing the Fizzbanger bath bomb!

Kiss | Dress To Impress

Kiss Gel Dress Nails Wrap Review

I'm always after new things to try in the beauty world, and it came as a shock to me when I realised I had never tried nail wraps before. These Kiss Gel Dress Nails seemed rather simple going by the instructions, so decided to give them a shot. This design in particular is called Fairy Dust, and I think it's really cute and definitely 'me'. I used the leopard print wrap on the accent nail for a pop of colour, however there's more than enough strips to do it the other way round as the pack includes 40 gel strips.

Kiss Gel Dress Nails Wrap Review

As a newbie, I did struggle applying the full wraps on my first attempt; however that's probably just me needing practice! The tips which I succeeded with applied quickly and effortlessly, perfect if you're rushing out the door, but want a bit of glam on your nails. I topped up my nails with Kiss ultrashine gel-strong topcoat, for a lasting finish. However you don't actually have to go out any buy any additional products as the pack contains the gels strips, mini file, manicure stick, wipe & shine pad plus a handy instruction sheet.

Kiss Gel Dress Nails Wrap Review Ultrashine Topcoat

The nail wraps and topcoat, courtesy of Kiss, were really easy to manage and apply, I'm very impressed with them! They last up to 1 week with a regular top coat, or up to 2 weeks when used with Kiss double-up top gel and LED lamp. The best thing that I love about these wraps is that to remove them, you only need to peel them off! With so many colours and patterns to choose from, you'll be spoiled for choice! Available from Superdrug for £5.99, these are gel nails without the expensive price tag.

If you could have any design on a nail wrap, what would it be?

Summer is drawing to a close; however festival season is not over just yet! With various events happening throughout September, it's time to make the most of the good weather while it lasts - so grab a dress and some lippie and enjoy the moment. This festival look in particular show above, courtesy of New Look, is one I would wear during the evening at a festival and the tropical print is right on trend.

I love the way how fashion and music have influenced each other over the decades, and how this has evolved and influenced festival fashion. Below is a fun interactive feature that will show the history behind festival looks and fashion, and takes a look back on the festival season.

Lush | Granny Takes A Dip Bath Bomb

Lush Granny Takes A Dip Bath Bomb Review Rings Colours

Earlier this week I moved back to Lincoln after spending a quiet two months at home over summer. It's fantastic having my own space again and feeling independant, however like last year, we don't actually have a bath in the new apartment - only showers. This meant in the last few days leading up to the big move, I had to use as many bath bombs up as I could! This bath bomb in particular was picked up as part of a haul from the Sheffield blogger meet up - it really stood out to me as you can imagine!

#NewarkBloggerMeet - Pizza Party!

Newark Blogger Meet 2014 Pizza Express

After many, many months of planning, the Newark blogger meet finally arrived! This is where I grew up so it was brilliant to walk around the shops and reminisce (even though it has been ages since I last went so couldn't remember where some things were!). Once I had met up with everyone and we'd spent some time in town, we headed to Pizza Express for half 2. Warning: this is a longer post than usual, and I wouldn't advise reading it if you're hungry - just writing it alone made my tummy rumble!

Personal Planner Review & Giveaway

Personal Planner Review

I start my second year at University next month, and it's safe to say I've always been terrible at organising myself. Although I achieve a 2:1 for first year, admittedly I left everything until the last week, which was a bit silly of me. That being said, it's nothing new for me to do that, it's something I've always done however I want to break out of that habit! I needed something to help me keep organised with my studies, while making sure I still had some 'me' time. These planners fit the bill perfectly, courtesy of Personal Planner; they include everything I could possibly need!

Sheffield Blogger Meet Meadowhall Group Photo
Group photo - taken by Jane

Earlier this month I had the pleasure of attending the Sheffield blogger meet up, hosted by the fabulous Siobhan over at The Beauty Baker. After a couple of hours getting to know each other and to explore what Meadowhall had up for grabs, we headed over to Las Iguanas for something to eat. Although it's not somewhere I would typically go, they did offer chips so I was more than happy munching away on those! I was a bit nervous about meeting new people since this is only the second meet I've been to, but everyone was really friendly and it was just like hanging out with a group of friends.

Hey all! You may have noticed my absence for a few days from blogging - and it's because I'm in Bristol! In the late hours of the night, I was collected and shipped down South, to the land of funny accents, farms, and foreign words such as "gurt". Also not forgetting this thing:

OOTD White Dress Anna Smith Bag

OOTD White Dress Anna Smith Bag

As you all know from my previous OOTD post, I mentioned I'm a fan of the comfy and casual style. I actually bought this white dress this week from New Look and I think it's gorgeous! I was umming and ahing over it for a long time due to the price tag, but I'm really glad I decided to get it in the end. It's a floral embroidered skater dress, and is actually the first white dress I own so I'm very pleased.

This outfit is something I would wear if I were going out for the day, and I'd also pop on a cardigan as an extra layer and I think it would even look cute with a belt around the waist. The Anna Smith bag courtesy of LYDC London, is perfectly sized to take on my adventures as it fits everything I could ever need to take with me on my travels.

Have you got any day trips planned this summer?
